Originally built in the 1960s in a Nordic revival style\, Binkhaven has endured to be one of the best-preserved examples of its architectural and interior design type. Inside\, visitors are immersed in rosemaling\, a Norwegian folk art literally translated as rose-painting. The ceilings and architectural features were painted by Sigmund Aarseth\, one of the most influential rosemaling painters of the twentieth century. Best known for his decades teaching at the Vesterheim Folk School\, Sigmund had a profound effect on rosemaling in America.
